對住可愛嘅BB，我哋成年人成日會自動轉channel講嘢，例如會高音啲、詞語簡短啲、尾音拖長啲、語速慢啲、語調又會誇張啲，仲成日用疉字。呢個似乎係出於天性嘅舉動，原來有唔少好處。
學術界將呢種語言方式，稱之為媽媽話（motherese）（亦謂父母話；parentese）。《教養大震撼》一書提到，呢種說話方式有助於BB大腦分辨不同的聲音，對佢哋掌握語言好重要。
康涅狄格大學同華盛頓大學一個共同研究發現，同BB講得多嘢未必可以令佢學得快啲，反而用parentese同BB溝通呢，就有助佢發展語言能力，例如係詞彙運用及表達都會表現得好啲。
不過， BB聽慣咗媽媽話，會唔會唔識聽普通人講嘢？各位爸爸媽媽唔洗擔心，用媽媽話啟蒙BB說話，並唔會妨礙佢哋學習成人語言，因為隨住孩子語言能力慢慢提高，佢地就自然可以好似大人咁同其他人交流。
